Two guys are pretty big in the news right now: One is Martin Shkreli, CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, who bought a 62-year old pill that cost a little over ten bucks for just one, and then jacked the price to $750 a pill just as soon as the ink was dry on that deal. (That means that a bottle of 30 pills is $22,500. How about that?)

You can think what you want, but I think he’s a tool.
And here’s what he said in regard to the backlash that promptly ensued: “And it seems like the media immediately points a finger at me / So I point one back at em, but not the index or pinkie.” Okay. So he’s a tool AND a plagiarizer because Eminem wrote that.
Dumbass.
Of course, he’s back-peddled off of that price now since he quickly became the second most hated man in America just behind the dentist that killed Cecil the lion.
The other guy that’s in the news right now is Pope Francis, who has graced America with a 6-day visit. He has some things to say about people who make lots of money and their responsibility to the world:
“A way has to be found to enable everyone to benefit from the fruits of the earth, and not simply to close the gap between the affluent and those who must be satisfied with the crumbs falling from the table, but above all to satisfy the demands of justice, fairness and respect for every human being.” (Pope Francis, Address to the Food and Agricultural Organization, 6/20/13)
Or how about this one:
“I would like to ask all those who have positions of responsibility in economic, political and social life, and all men and women of goodwill: let us be ‘protectors’ of creation, protectors of God’s plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another and of the environment.” (Pope Francis, Homily at Inauguration, 3/19/13)
This pretty well sums it up:

You can think what you want, but I think he’s lovely.
There are a lot of people out there who justify their self-serving actions. I’ve done it myself. But I’m trying. I’m making it a point to be on a better path. The “Final Exam of Life” is not a hard one, folks. It’s quite simple:
~ Feed the poor.
~ Give water to those who are thirsty.
~ Take the stranger in.
~ Visit the sick and the imprisoned.
~ Care for the widows and the orphans.
~ Preach good news to the poor.
~ Heal the heartbroken.
~ Announce freedom to the captives.
~ Pardon all prisoners.
~ Comfort all who mourn.
There’s nothing in the Final Exam of Life that suggests you create a cost-analysis spreadsheet before you do any of those things.
Those things aren’t hard in theory — only in practice — and only when it inconveniences us or flies in the face of whatever our particular political party deems prudent in very loud, authoritative roars.
But I’m done listening to the roars. I’m trying to heed that still, small Voice. I’m not going to participate in the idolatry that elevates these man-made systems of this world over The Way that Christ offers — the one that only costs . . . my life. I’m seeking that better path. I’ve pledged my allegiance to a Kingdom not of this world, one I believe is here right now and yet to come.
I want to ace that Final…
