The Holy Spirit messes me all up.
Don’t laugh. It’s true. She does.
You know, I used to be able to sustain anger like a boss. I could hold a grudge like nobody’s business. Where once I could brew up a good long smolder that could take a family of five through an entire Minnesota winter, now I can barely muster even a riff of good ol’ reliable rancor.
A few months ago, an individual ticked me off, and I about had a come-apart of Biblical proportions. I can get mad – that’s not the problem. But no matter how badly I want to stay mad, I just can’t anymore.
I saw this individual just this week and instantly my heart was filled with compassion. All I wanted to do was show mercy and grace. As soon as I was in the same room, all I wanted to do was work toward resolution.
It’s weird. What is that?
Well, you say, isn’t that a good thing? Don’t you want to evolve as a human?
You mean all that surrender? Yeah, it’s great.
Some days I think the Holy Spirit should come with a warning label. You just gotta know before you sign on for all this that She won’t just change your life.
She’ll change who you are.
